Detail of hand embroidery in sage green thread
Our craft

Silk & Sage began with three women, one atelier and a quiet belief that modest fashion should feel as considered as any couture piece. We source breathable nida and satin, and finish every garment with embroidery drawn from Sri Lankan flora — the fern, the olive leaf, the lotus.
No mass production. No shortcuts. Just garments you'll reach for on the days that matter.

Inside the house

01

The fabric comes first

We buy nida, crepe and satin by the roll and reject anything that does not breathe in 32°C. Roughly a third of what we sample never makes it.

02

Cut for a Sri Lankan frame

Our blocks were drafted here, not imported from the Gulf. Shorter shoulder, deeper armhole, sleeves that clear a steering wheel.

03

Finished by hand

Every embroidered piece is worked by one of three women in our Colombo atelier. Their initials are on the inside label.

Loved in Sri Lanka
“The fabric drapes beautifully in Colombo heat and the embroidery is unlike anything I've seen locally. This is the abaya I'll wear for years.”

It is the piece most of our customers buy first, and the one they come back for in a second colour.
