Where it started
A rail of six abayas
Silk & Sage started in 2024 with a rail of six abayas at a Ramadan pop-up in Colombo 07. They sold out on the first evening, mostly to women who said the same thing: everything available locally was either imported and too heavy for the climate, or cheap and badly cut.
So we drafted our own blocks. Shorter shoulder, deeper armhole, sleeves that clear a steering wheel. Fabrics chosen by how they behave at 32°C and 80% humidity rather than by how they photograph.
Every embroidered piece is still finished by hand by one of three women in our atelier. Their initials are on the inside label.

Abaya length is measured shoulder to hem, the way it is sold across Sri Lanka. If you are between two sizes, take the longer one — shortening is free at our Colombo atelier.

Before you ask
- Can I return something that does not fit?
- Yes — 7 days from delivery on anything unworn with tags attached. We arrange the pickup ourselves in the Western Province; elsewhere we refund the return courier cost.
- Do you do alterations?
- Shortening is free at our Colombo atelier for any abaya bought from us. Other alterations are quoted case by case.
- Is cash on delivery really available everywhere?
- In all 25 districts. There is a LKR 200 handling charge on COD orders, waived if you pay by card or bank transfer.
- How long does a made-to-order piece take?
- Ten working days for the Ivory Nikkah Abaya. Everything else ships from stock within one working day.
